The image is taken from wallpaper titled "1776" currently produced by Adelphi Paper Hangings and installed in the house. First produced around 1790, the cheery yellow architectural paper is the first known American allegorical wallpaper and features an American patriot stepping British laws while handing the Declaration of Independence to a sobbing Britannia. Britannia is leaning on a funeral plinth and urn, as the patriot converses with a Native American.
Cast and painted by hand in Massachusetts.
