Searching for the Past: Using Post Emancipation Records

Artist-In-Residency

About this experience

Join the African American Genealogy Group of Kentucky (AAGGKY) for two 2-hour workshops: “Searching for the Past: Using Post Emancipation Records”. Each workshop will guide you through uncovering the names and legacies of enslaved ancestors that have been long hidden in archives across the nation. Led by experienced genealogists and members of the AAGGKY, this workshop will teach you the techniques you need to navigate historical records, archival documents, and how to interpret them into your family’s story.

Attendees can choose between two sessions: 2:30-4:30PM or 6:30-8:30PM. Or if you are wanting to learn more, attendees can sign up for both sessions!

Whether you are a beginner or experienced researcher, this workshop offers a supportive and informative space to explore your family’s history and share their stories with the community.

Tickets are $20.00 per person and supplies will be provided. Laptops are encouraged for notetaking, but not required.
