Virtual Workshop| Tuesday, July 6, 6:00 pm | Brian Allison: From Bath to Bridgerton: Correspondence in Regency Fiction and Reality Letter Writing Workshop
As was the case in Regency England, the world of Bridgerton is laced together by correspondence. Epistolary skill was one of the hallmarks of a lady or gentleman of the time. Letters were tools or even weapons, and one had to know how to craft a letter to suit the recipient
In this workshop, we shall be sharpening these skills and using examples from the popular series. We shall explore the rules of writing in period style and how to apply them. From addressing superiors to proper form, to period language, to handwriting, the goal will be to craft a convincing 19th-century letter--including writing, folding, and sealing in period style. Along the way, we will (respectfully) critique the methods seen in the series and compare them to historical examples. The end result is to prepare the participants to go forth and begin to chronicle their own adventures in time.
Online participants will receive a kit including two quill pens, a packet of information, as well as a few sheets of stationery, and a small vial of period ink.
Workshop kits will be mailed to participants.
